Feels like déjà vu all over again, doesn't it? Well folks, that's right, we've moved yet again. My graduate advisor, Dewey McCafferty, decided to take a great job in the Chemistry Department at Duke University in Durham, NC. So, for what feels like the tenth time in the last twelve months, Ryan and I bought our weight in bubble wrap, packed up all our stuff, got new phone numbers, a new apartment, and a partridge in a pear tree (which is code for a U-Haul trailer and a hitch on the Jeep).
We managed to get all the stuff from Philly to North Carolina with the help of some lovely movers. (For those of you still in Philly - Bradley and Sons - they're GREAT and cheap!) We then spent two days unpacking boxes and trying to make some sort of order out of the new place before hopping on a plane to Baton Rouge. Once there, we attended Ryan's graduations (see next post for pictures and synopsis) and packed up all of his stuff. Who knew so many things could survive a Category 4 hurricane and 4 feet of water??? We quickly realized that all of his stuff and mine would not fit in the back of his Jeep as we had so naively hoped.
So, we rented a 4x8 U-Haul trailer that looked like it had been made in the mid-70's, put a trailer hitch on Ryan's Jeep, and proceeded to pack anything our parents would let us have into the back of the thing. We drove for three days to Durham, stopping along the way at the cabin in Mississippi and at Jennie Blackledge's lovely apartment in Columbia, SC.
We finally arrived home to begin the unpacking process all over again. A week later, our little apartment is starting to feel like home and we finally know where most of our stuff is. We have a guest bedroom and bathroom, so if anyone is ever in the Raleigh/Durham/Chapel Hill area and needs a place to crash, please call us! Speaking of, here is our new address and our new home phone number. Our cell numbers have also changed and are listed below.800 Courtney Creek Blvd.
