Babyproofing

Anne has definitely been working on crawling, scooting, and generally getting into trouble for the last couple of weeks. While Gram was here a couple of weeks ago, she learned to pull herself up on her knees in her pack and play:

She has also been working on standing, and can do it quite well either holding on to something or with us holding her hips to keep her stable:

And though she isn't officially crawling yet, she is definitely scooting herself into some odd locations:

Yes, that is my baby with half of her body under the couch. And yes, she is trying to play with one of the dog toys.

So you can see that babyproofing needed to happen and soon! We ordered some nifty retractable gates several weeks ago and last Saturday Ryan installed them for us so we could keep Anne out of harm's way (or at least away from the 2 flights of stairs!). We installed one gate between our foyer and living room so that she could have reign of the kitchen and living room without going up and down the stairs unsupervised. There is also a gate at the top of the third floor stairs, and one at the entrance to her bedroom that can either gate her into her room or gate off the stairs, depending on our needs. Here is a picture of the spiffy new gate in front of Anne's nursery:

We also lowered the pack-n-play mat so that we don't have to worry about her toppling out of it. So far, she is enjoying her new perspective:

To top off the weekend we stuck outlet covers in all of the sockets that she could reach in the next couple of years and purchased some cool magnetic cabinet locks for the kitchen and bathrooms that we will be installing next weekend. Now we can sit back and wait for her to come up with some incredibly imaginative way of foiling all our safety measures! :o)
